Web Design / Development

There are 7.45 billion unique mobile connections and only 7.2 billion people on the planet.  There are over 1 million more mobile devices activated every day across the world. Google announced mobile friendly site is an official ranking factor and from 21st April 2015, it will be a ranking signal. Since mobile usage is increasing day by day, having a mobile optimised site gives a better user experience when your site is accessible via smartphone or smaller screen devices. If you are not sure whether your website is mobile friendly or not, you can test it on the right side of this article - 'Mobile Friendly Test'.

What is Responsive Web Design?

Responsive Web Design is an approach whereby a designer creates a Web page that “responds to” or resizes itself depending on the type of device it is being seen through. That could be an oversized desktop computer monitor, a laptop, a 10-inch tablet, a 7-inch tablet, or a 4-inch smartphone screen.

It has one URL and the same HTML, regardless of the device, which makes it easier and more efficient for Google to crawl, index, and organize content. Contrast this with a separate mobile site which has a different URL and different HTML than its desktop counterpart, requiring Google to crawl and index multiple versions of the same site.

Additionally, Google prefers responsive web design because content that lives on one website and one URL is much easier for users to share, interact with, and link to than content that lives on a separate mobile site.

Migration from Traditional website to Responsive website

If Search Engine Optimisation is a core component of your digital marketing strategy, having a mobile–friendly website is becoming essential. The responsive design gives your audience a better mobile experience than a non-responsive design that simply serves up a bloated desktop view. A better experience equals happy readers… which equals on-page engagement, linking, and sharing… which equals better SEO.
